A bilingual page is a different product

Immersive Translate’s homepage describes a bilingual AI translator for websites, PDFs that keep their layout, video subtitles (they name YouTube and Netflix), meetings, images, and comics. They state support for more than 100 language pairs and list several translation engines. The Chrome Web Store listing adds the reading detail that matters here: hover a paragraph and the translation appears below it; paragraphs stay the unit so context stays intact; you can also select text for a contextual explanation.

That is how you finish a foreign article you could not have read raw. It is not how BrowseAndLearn works.

BrowseAndLearn leaves the paragraph in one language. A few words get a highlight. The meaning is in a hover card, not in a second block of text under the sentence. We do not translate PDFs, manga, or meeting captions.

When each one fits

  • Immersive Translate — the page (or the video) is above your level. You want the meaning in parallel, then you can look down at a word if you care.
  • BrowseAndLearn — you can already read the page. You want a small set of words to notice, not a translation of the whole thing.

Immersive Translate describes a free bilingual tool on its site; paid plans are listed there too. BrowseAndLearn is free for 7 days, then $5 a month; cancel anytime.

Languages on this side

Twelve languages paired with English: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic in both directions, plus Hebrew as English → Hebrew. Immersive Translate’s public “100+ language pairs” is a different scale. We will not pretend otherwise.

What this is not

It is not an Immersive Translate mode, a DeepL wrapper, or a claim that highlighting three words is “better AI.” For an on-demand dictionary, see Mate Translate alternative. For video dual subtitles built as a classroom, see Language Reactor alternative.

Questions

Does BrowseAndLearn replace Immersive Translate?

No. If you need to understand a page, PDF, or video that you cannot read yet, a bilingual translator is the right tool. BrowseAndLearn will not put a translation under each paragraph or on a subtitle line.

What does BrowseAndLearn do instead?

It assumes you can already follow the page. A subset of words is highlighted. Hover for the meaning. The rest of the article is unchanged.

Can I use both?

Yes. Immersive Translate when the page is above your level; BrowseAndLearn when you can read it and only want extra vocabulary. Using both on the same paragraph is usually too much ink.
