Two reading tools, two defaults
Readlang has been around long enough that “click the word, save the card” is the mental model. You often read in its reader, not in the site’s own layout. That is a fair trade if you want a clean text column and a deck at the end.
BrowseAndLearn defaults the other way. The website keeps its layout. Words that are worth noticing get a highlight without a click. Hover (or tap) for the translation. There is no built-in SRS, no “I already know this / again” button, and no claim that we imported your Readlang library.
When each one fits
- Readlang — you want to click, collect, and review. A reader view is fine. Flashcards are the point.
- BrowseAndLearn — you want to stay on the original page. A few words light up. You are not here to grade cards tonight.
Price here is a free week, then $5 a month, cancel anytime. Readlang’s plans live on their site; this page will not invent them.
Languages on this side
Twelve languages paired with English: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic in both directions, plus Hebrew as English → Hebrew. Spanish is the flagship pair.
What this is not
It is not a Readlang skin, a flashcard importer, or a claim that automatic highlights are “more accurate” than a click. For video, see Language Reactor alternative. For the plain use case, see learn vocabulary while browsing.
Questions
Does BrowseAndLearn replace Readlang?
Not as a flashcard system. Readlang is built around clicking words and reviewing them later. BrowseAndLearn does not ship a spaced-repetition deck. If that review loop is why you use Readlang, keep it.
What is different on the page?
Readlang often pulls text into its own reader and waits for a click. BrowseAndLearn stays on the live site and highlights a subset of words automatically. Hover for the meaning; no click required to see it.
Can I use both?
Yes. Some people read with BrowseAndLearn and export hard words into a separate flashcard tool. This extension will not do that export for you.
